What is Layer 2?

Secondary frameworks or protocols built on top of an existing primary blockchain (Layer 1) to solve scalability, speed, and high transaction fee issues. They process transactions off-chain by bundling them together, and then send the finalized summary back to the Layer 1 network for ultimate security. Examples include Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base.
