What is Layer 1?

The base network or primary architecture of a blockchain platform that processes, validates, and finalizes transactions on its own ledger. Layer 1 networks have their own consensus mechanisms (like PoW or PoS) and native cryptocurrencies. Examples include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Avalanche. Other secondary solutions rely on this foundational layer for ultimate security.
