What is Fork?

A change or update to a blockchain’s underlying protocol or source code that splits the network into two different paths. Forks are implemented to introduce new features, fix security vulnerabilities, or resolve community disagreements. Mild, backward-compatible updates are called "Soft Forks," while radical, non-backward-compatible upgrades that create an entirely separate blockchain and asset are known as "Hard Forks."
